Person Centered Student Counsellor review - By: Mr AW Blackwell, 15 Jan 2004
Andrew Blackwell, Person Centered Student Counsellor,Bishop Otter
This book is a must for all psychotherapy & counselling students whatever " hat " you wear. It provides an intriguing & novel insight into the therapist / client relationship & brings to the author new concepts of understanding by focusing strongly on the client & showing that it is here that we have the most to learn. For the first time the tables are turned & we have a professional admitting to self appraised errorsin practice yet outlining a clear & digestable learning from both this & all relational & therapeutic aspects of the client. Get out there & buy it or you will have missed a key plateau of learning.
An excellent book of reference for the psychotherapy student - By: , 08 Jan 2000
Casement offers an excellent book for the student therapist about to enter into practice. His explanations to situations are intriguing - & this keeps the reader interested.
This book combines both of Casement's original works: "On Learning from the Patient" & "On Further Learning from the Patient" into the one book.
There is usually an explanation to situations (even if many explanations) & Casement details many ways of looking at the therepeutic relationshipsin this book.
Casement even demonstrates to the reader where the author has made mistakes during the therapeutic process - & describes how he identified what was happening, & the steps he took to correct himself.
Uncomplicatedin his style of writing, he writes as a friendly mentor.
I originally purchased this book for my with with the psychodynamic model, however I would see that many therapists of many models could make use of this excellent book.

I found Casement to be fascinatingin his explanation of the interaction between he & his patients. He described his thoughts & ideasin an uncomplicated manner & as a student I found this to be most helpful. After reading his book, a lot of things finally made sense to me. I strongly recommend reading this book to all clinicians as it can be used within any framework & theory
