Can you plagiarise your own work...? This book is the same as a previous one! - By: S. Farley, 29 Aug 2008
The content of this book is fairly good, & although most of the evidence presented is fairly subjective I think Strom does a pretty good job of presenting his case - namely that we need to be aware of the dangers that can be (but not necessarily are) present when revival is taking place. This is a fairly one-sided view, though, & while I side with Strom on almost all of his points, the astute reader may want to read some of Bentley's work to get a different angle. There are quite a lot of transcripts of Bentley's 'teaching' available online if you want to avoid buying his books!
On a very negative note, what I found really upsetting about this book is that it is almost a word for word facsimilie of Strom's book, "Why I Left the Prophetic Movement", published less than a year before! This fact alone did make me wonder about the integrity of the ministry. It does seem that the Florida 'Outpouring' has provided an opportunity for Revivalschool publishing to cash in... & without even correcting the many typos & punctuation errorsin the first book!
I would recommend this book over the other (nearly identical) one but would advise you to check them outin your local bookshop if possible before buying either.
An emotive book rather than a biblical scholarly work - By: Mr. Anthony J. Coles, 29 Aug 2008
I was interested to see what Andrew Strom had to say but I was disappointed. He has a very narrow view of prophecy (= repentance) & although states that revivals can be messy, has made up his own mind about what has happened over the past 14 years. He didn't mention gold dust apart from the title. He needs to look at the fruit of revivals - I am aware of a lot of fruit coming from the Toronto blessing - & not make it more a personality issue. He also made a lot of use of personal emails which cannot really be used as "evidence". From what I've seen of the Florida Outpouring, many people recommitted their lives to God & many were healed. God is a God of the supernatural, there will always be abuses & people will make mistakes but that doesn't stop God working.
listen to your hearts - By: Ms. S. Godoy, 21 Aug 2008
Having attended the Florida putpouring, I think it's important to open your hearts & minds to hear & feel the presence of God. I found the outpouring to be real, spiritual & I happened to go when Todd Bentley was not there (obviously for his personal reasons he is currently no longer taking partsin this revival) but I found the rest of the Fresh Fire team to be amazing. Similar seminars are taking place all the time -in the UK there is Farenheit, Faith Camp, Soul Survivor & many more, & they are all very similar with angels & gold dust, gold teeth, healings etc etc. Are all to be criticised? I feel for the author.
Disturbed - By: pauljimmyn, 15 Aug 2008
The first thing that struck me about this book was the arrogant, 'revival my way is the only way.' I have my own views on Todd Bentley, but believe he is at the mercy of his perceptions as are we all & is short of the glory of God as are we all. Other Christian writers have the good grace to admit they are on a journey & don't have all the answers, but their heart shows they are sincerely seeking truth & hunger to love Jesus.
Having said that, i believe Strom probably is better qualified on the subject of revival than me. Perhaps the only way God can draw people into loving & obedient relationship is through fear of punishment & intimidation. I can envisage this not being the case, but if some people really have the absolute truth, then i am pleased for them. As for me, if God is not the God i admire & love because of his love for mankind, then i am a long way from knowing him & one of those ones who is 'decieved.'
confirmed all my inner suspicions - By: jesus' girl, 13 Aug 2008
I haven't seen much of Todd Bentley & the God TV but what i have seen alarmed me - & i kind of felt guilty about being alarmed, like i was a doubting thomas & putting a dampner on God's work...but this isn't how God does things??!! My wonderful vicar showed a bitin one of our healing sessions & the dvd kept stopping (luckily) so we didn't see much, but what i did see was just horrible , crass, casino-style shouting & wooping & people running around "cured"
....I don't remember Jesus needing to shout & screech & wear designer suits with gig style lighting & sexy dancers to get the job done..
This guy just hit me WRONG...that's the only way to describe it & i just bless Andrew for this book - not so i can pass on it on "i told you so" style, just because i just get a horrible feeling about all this revival hype lately & genuinely feel it's spiritually "wrong"
i very much recommend you read this & make up your own mind...i'm not trying to say Todd Bentley is the devil incarnate, i just feel an absence of God & the Holy Spirit & our Lordin game show style telly with spiritual energy i dont recognise as of Christ
I pray for true revival
