Not his best, but still OK, better than most - By: Rainbowdog, 09 Feb 2008
I found this Prey story a bit predictable, not as good as the series normally is. It's still very good though - I always think of all the stuff I come across that's close to unreadable when I'm not that impressed with a book. What I didn't like about this book was compared to the other Prey novels, & other books he's written like 'The Night Crew' (which I thought was his best) it's not that great, but compared to the competitionin the genre it's stillin the top class.
The usual high standard - By: Mr. G. Battle, 16 Jan 2008
'Invisible Prey' is a well thought out piece of crime fiction. Lucas Davenport, the central characterin the 'Prey' series is once more thrownin to the midst of a complicated crime. What makes this, & each 'Prey' novel is the approach & the plot. The plot here is no run-of-the-mill serial killer story, but an interesting & clever piece of narrative. The approach is also different. In fact for the first third of the book it seems that Davenport will be dealing with two completely separate crimes. Sandford has deviated from the standard path of the genre & created a compelling & thoroughly believable crime thriller. The finale isn't as strong as it could have been although it maintains it's well written feel of reality & there's not as much suspense asin other 'Prey' novels. On the bright side it is pacey, witty, sneaky & filled with likeable characters (and some despicable ones too). Highly recommended indeed.
A criminal conspiracy and a string of murders involving quilters and antiquers is the plot of this Sandford thriller - By: Terry Zach Kingly, 21 Nov 2007
I must say, as someone who has read a lot of Sandford's "Prey" series that this book was a little bit of a stretch for me. The book is still a page turner & a below average Sandford novel is still a lot better than a lot of that other stuff out there. This book is worth the read.
I must say though, Sandford tried to intertwine two story linesin the book, one involving the quilter/antiquer murders & another a political case involving pederasty. I don't think Sandford accomplished the task & everytime the book switched away from the antique murder storyline the book was fairly uninteresting. It was a departure for Sandford. He normally keeps his stories on task, on the prey!!!I would also recommend, if you missed reading TIN0 GEORGIOU'S masterpiece--THE FATES, go & read it. With fascinating & brilliantly created charactersin `THE FATES' coupled with two intertwining plots makes for a completely enjoyable & page-turning read.
Not his usual high standard - By: J. ROWLINGS, 02 Nov 2007
Invisible Prey serves up certainly the most tedious of all the Prey novels. It has very little suspense & misses the cutting edge of previous Prey novels. A lack of thought goes into the plot - for example, if the police checked phone records of murder victims they would tell quite simply who the assailants were. Having said that, JS is still a worthy read. Disappointedin this dreary Prey book, but I give it three stars as a standalone read. Please read the other Prey novels.
He did go and do it again!! - By: Penny Harvey, 01 Sep 2007
Lucas Davenport is still absolutely gorgeous - even though he's not quite as hard-edged as he used to be!!
This is a must for all John Sandford (and , of course Lucas) fans. As usual superbly written, tight, paced & still developing the characters after all this time.
If you enjoy a good thriller - with an edge, & have not read any of the prey series, as the other reviewer suggested - start at the beginning & readin order - growing with the characters only adds to the brilliance of the novels.
Just a shame we have to wait so long between each one - perhaps Mr Sandford could type a bit quicker!!??!!
