Miranda Richardson turnsin a truly unparalleled performance. Her Perfect Peter is... perfect. Her Henry is - well, perfectly horrid. Excellent entertainment for everyone. We have thesein the car & they are infinitely more effective than the expensive & mind-numbing dvd player. There is enough ironyin the whole to render it classic & not (as a previous reviewer would argue) just a bunch of cliches. Henry has a lot to recommend him - creative, funny, candid & adventurous. As for Moody Margaret - a triumph! No way is this anti-girls, MM (Henry's nemesis) is more than a match for Henry. Funnily enough, my kids all vie for the title of Perfect Peter - which is testament to the complexity of the writing - even though Henry is a charismatic & magnetic anti-hero. Great for encouraging children to read - By: Smile, 26 Jul 2007 I recommend these books for children aged 6-9. They are great at encouraging children to read. I initially bought the story tapes for my reluctant reader son. Both my children (boy 8, girl 7) loved the stories so much that soon they were both devouring the books. They are aimed at a younger audience than (beloved but less accessible) Just William. The typeface is large & easy to read, the stories short & fast paced, but most importantly, they are really funny & Horrid Henry appeals to the rebelin all of us.

A series of ghastly stereotypes; cheap, unintelligent writing.
Parents are the enemy, girls are silly, being kind is laughed at & so on - why oh why can't we grow up & move forwardin a positive way. This is literature for children at some of its worst.
sion Of The Reluctant Reader - By: , 07 Jan 2004 A modern day Just William that kids will love (especially boys). A naughty yet appealing schoolboy who gets up to all sorts of mischief. Easy to read & hard to put down - great reading material for kids aged 5-8. This serves up 3 booksin one - terrific value! My 8 year old son saw reading as a chore & would never have dreamed of picking up a book until he got his hands on Horrid Henry & now he just can't get enough.
