Can I tell you about Asperger Syndrome? - By: book tigger, 31 Oct 2008
Asperger Syndrome?: A Guide for Friends & Family].
Our 5 year old Son has just been diagnosed with AS after 12 months from hellin his first school reception year. We never felt he was different & still don't, but little quirks that we just related to his own individuality are shown within this book which makes you sit up & think that this book could be written about your own Son. Its clear, concise & totally wonderfulin how it takes you through the journey of an AS child & how he sees the world from his little corner. We will shortly be sharing its contents with our 8 year old to help him to be patient & understand his brother a little better. The foreword states that 'parents have needed this book for a very long time...' & I didn't realise just how accurate that would feel to us. I never thought that such a short & easy to read book could give you so much help. Thoroughly recommended.
I'm Surprised! - By: edrm, 16 Sep 2008
Most of the pictures shownin this book remind me of my childhood! I was completely unaware of Asperger Syndromein those days, though. Especially, the one on p.18, which seems to indicate the similar experiencesin my 1st & 2nd elementary school days. Everybody enjoyed playing ball, while I was just watching the scene almost all the time, not knowing what to do. Nothing was so embarrassing & awkward than that, if you ask me. Of course, I had tried my best to interact with the other children, mainly because I felt quite lonely. However, I was so afraid of `screwing up' or my poor motor skill that I wouldn't join them to avert my embarrassment. In short, I was preoccupied with such mixed & complicated emotions!
I'm sure this book tells about the experiences of people with AS and/or autism not onlyin the past but the present. And that will give them a lot of opportunities to learn from their mistakes!
the perfect book for helping others understand your child - By: Asw Moffat, 14 Sep 2008
as others have said, this book clearly & concisely summarises how your child behaves differently - we originally got this from the library & as I read it for the first time it was as if is had been written especially to describe my 11 yr old son - have just ordered a copy to send around the family
An extremely informative and clear book - By: A. Fenton, 26 May 2008
After my son's diagnosis two months ago at the age of six I have been reading various books about Asperger's. I stumbled across this gem of a book & would thoroughly recommend it as a fabulously potted explanation of the spectrum of symptons & characteristics of AS. I have found that explaining the syndrome to others can be quite tricky but this book accomplishes this & can be read & understoodin thirty minutes. I would suggest that all close family members, friends, teachers & fellow pupils would benefit hugely from this little book. It is deliveredin palatable sections that cover all the main aspects of Asperger's behaviour &in a way that is sympathetic & calm. I find myself re-reading this book every month to remind myself of my son's perspective - it's quite invaluable.
Excellent introduction to AS for those who need to know - By: Learning more about AS each day..., 16 Nov 2006
When our eldest son was diagnosed with AS we needed something to give to his older sister to help her understand what was being said about him.We chose this book & found it an excellent introduction not just for her but also adultsin contact with him (such as a TA at school).
In an ideal world this book would only be needed for other children but until then this is a simple, effective & very readable introduction to AS for adults & children alike.
