Very promising - By: A C Bradley, 15 Feb 2006
I found the 2002 edition excellent & I'm sure the new edition will be at least as good. Background information is excellent, & the maps & details of individual places of interest (particularly archaeological sites) give all the information one needs to appreciate themin full. Only down side: not many photographs.
Very useful guide / great book on Jordan - By: Kabo, 14 Jan 2005
I recently spent two weeks travelling through Jordan - my first trip to the Middle East - & took with me all the guidebooks I could find. This one was, by far, the best. Not only was it consistently accurate & useful, it also provided a lot of very interesting background information on the country's history, culture, & social life.
I spent most of my time with Jordanian friends, who took me to local hotspots & out-of-the-way favorites, & it was almost frustrating to see that however obscure & apparently hidden the place, it was includedin the book (the only exceptions, for those who really care: a great holein the wall falafel place called "Al Kuds Cafeteria" on Rainbow Streetin Amman, an equally cheap & fantastic schwarma place near the second circle, alsoin Amman, & the Hotel Panoramain Petra: affordable, quiet, & with a great view of the valley).
This book will be essential for those interestedin the main tourist destinations, but also (and especially) for those willing to travel, read & explore more. My Jordanian friends were so taken with this book, that some of them actually bought it...
