Even if you've never heard of him, buy it. - By: Francis G. Hatton, 10 Jan 2008
This very readable book lets those who know Dave know him a little more. If you don't know him you'll want to by the end of it. I've shared a bottle, a room & a dojo floor with the man & I've laughed cried & been scared all at the same time sometimes. I found his presence alone inspirational but best of all I have laughed till my stomach ached no matter how many times I've heard or read the stories.
Buy it, buy it now then get on the next course he takes & see the man not just talk but do.
100% Dave Hazard - By: F. Ghiaci, 22 Nov 2007
Like anyone who has ever had the privilege of knowing Sensei, I was expecting the book to be honest, exciting & funny but above all to be at the high standard that Dave always demands of himself (and others!).
I started reading it the minute that it arrived & didn't put it down until I had read it to the end, which was a first for me, & I can honestly say that it exceeded all my expectations.
Whilst written by a Karateka, this is not a book about Karate. It is a book about courage, integrity & sacrifice which makes this Karateka the man that he is.
Happy Day's - By: Mark Elliott, 11 Nov 2007
I first met Senseiin 1982 at a course as a yellow belt & hearing that he trainedin Japan, I plucked the courage to ask him how l could get to Japan..... Back came the philosophical answer "by aeroplane" Oss Sensei I replied!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is Dave no frills, straight to the point, & that is how he tells itin his book That meeting started a relationship that is now 25 years old & as the previous reviews also acknowledge Dave is not just my Sensei, more importantly he is my & my families friend. I am honoured to be one of the instructors he stays with when teaching for me, &in the past shared a drink or two with him (My wife lisa related to the story of Mary O'Brien ordering us to bed like scalded kids Drunk). How nice it is to have all the stories & more that l have heardin the past put into one volume & read it sober. It made me laughin public, people must have thought me crazy, & it brought a tear to my eye because it is Dave's story as he is, honest & no frills. If you know Dave then you will read this book if you don't know him do yourself a favour read it. Its not a karate book, it is a book about the life of one of the best non Japanese Karate instructors there is. I would also like to thank Chris Parker for the difficult task of getting Dave to put it all down I bet that was not easy Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & to Mick Dewey for introducing Dave's teaching to us, & for being part of so many of the good stories.

An excellent read! - By: Malcolm Phipps, 06 Nov 2007
A brilliant book from,in my view, the best Shotokan instructorin Europe. Dave says it like it is, as is his way & I just couldn't put the book down. Not only is he a great karate instructor but also a great friend & like a true friend he stood by me when the chips were down. Something I'll never forget. The book is an honest insight into Dave's very eventful life & although sometimes sad, is also extremely funnyin parts. Put this book on your Christmas list, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed.
honest, like the man... - By: P. Bonett, 05 Nov 2007
As I read it, I knew the book came straight from Dave's heart. As you will see, he is not just a great karate man but a whole person, with strengths & weaknesses...it was painful to read of some of the troubles he has dealt with but overall, inspiring, like the man himself. Some of those stories!!...be happy!
