Does what it says - By: M. Sear, 24 Jul 2009
Before:

My daughter could not knit

After:

She can knit

Thus the book does what it says. If you want to learn how to knit, buy it. If you dont then why are you reading this?
Thorough but dated - By: Ms. V. Millar, 15 Mar 2009
I bought this looking for a failproof guide to knitting - the diagrams are clear (though I've not yet put them to the test) & the coverage comprehensive but the minute I saw the book I realised it has been superceded several times over by more recent Debbie Bliss books - the overall feel of the patterns is rather dated.
A new knitter - By: A. Towler, 25 Feb 2009
I recently felt the urge to start knitting & brought this book to help me start. It has clear instructions on how to do the basics like casting on & knit & pearl stitches, & how to correct mistakes. There is also a library of other more complex stitches & how to do patterns. I like this book but feel that it jumps from beginners to the very complicated a bit too soon.
Great for beginners and the experienced knitter - By: N. J. Slade, 06 Feb 2009
I initially borrowed this book from the library & found it so good that I had to buy my own copy! It explains knitting techniques very clearly, with easy-to-follow pictures so it's ideal for a beginner. I can already knit but have tended to stick to fairly simple patterns so far, so I was keen to try out something more adventurous. This book is also great for the experienced knitter as it explains all sorts of interesting techniques & shows how to incorporate various colours of wool & different textures into your knitting. I'm now into knitting little pictures of trees, houses, stars etc for cards with a difference!
Buyer Beware... - By: F. Hardcastle, 01 Nov 2008
although this book is good for learning the basics of knitting, most of the projects are for children, which was unexpected. Based on the contents page i assumed that there were SOME projects for children's clothing but that the majority would be for adults. it however turns out that the word "child's"in the titles of the projects is dropped after the first two or three projects. There are some patterns for adult clothing & home furnishings, however the majority, including all but one of the sweaters are for children aged 1-6.
