Confused and somewhat disappointed - By: shentog, 09 Aug 2006
I bought this book expecting a biographical account of the writers timein the military. Having already read a book called "Terminal Velocity" by Steve Devereux I did not expect this to be a word for word copy, even the photographs were the samein both books.Idential story, different cover, title & author pseudonym..what a disappointment. Although the book itself though not a classic is typical of the genre & interesting enough but whyin the blurb is there no mention of the fact that these arein fact the same book.I feel somewhat duped into buying both books
For Queen and Country - By: S. R. Randles, 11 Jul 2006
Sorry to buck the trend but this book is a fairly average example of the genre. The content is ok but the author's simplistic writing style borders on patronising. There are far better alternatives available, such as Close Quarter Battle by Mike Curtis or Immediate Action by Andy Mcnab.
A great read - By: , 30 Jan 2006
This is a very easy & enjoyable read. I finished itin a weekend, feeling compelled to pick it upin every spare moment i had & read a bit more.
The reason it only gets 4 stars is a distinct lack of actual action after he joins the SAS. Not the author's fault, & doesn't prevent this from being a great book. I'd certainly recommend it.
A soldiers true life story! - By: DAVE H-H, 16 Nov 2005
Without the use of big or fancy words Nigel Ely brings his army career to life. His timein the Paras & then starting out on the road to SAS selection is portrayedin a gritty & easy to read fashion. He carefully though thoroughly describes the heat of battle & the sometimes grotesque situations that he was thrown into. A natural author, you almost feel you are there with him & his comrades. A great read, hard to put down & I only hope he writes another book soon.
keep low move fast - By: , 05 Jul 2003
a great book i have read it 4 times like the way he writes about the task force & when he wasin the falklands.my only gripe is after ordering steve devereux terminal velocity that i realised the book was the same as spud elys how he got away with changing his name & the title ill never no but it did piss me off!! i know sas tropers dont have to use there real names but it doesnt justify me buying the same book twice under false pretence!
