Mysteries of cricket explained - By: DavyA, 09 Feb 2007
Confused about what the ramblings of the cricket commentator actually mean ? Not clear on the LBW rule ? No idea about silly mid off ? Then this book could be the answer - it is a quality read. It's a must for any recent convert to the game. Superb clarity, a good balance of detail & a pinch of humour - this is no stuffy cricket book. The book explains the rules & terminology of the game, has some cartoon style illustrations to help with the explanations & a marvellous glossary of terms as well. Brilliant for the novice & still entertaining for the already established fan - an excellent book offering some superb explanations about the complexities of a fantastic sport.
Perfectly punchy - By: A Googly, 09 Aug 2006
I'm no 'Johnny Come Lately' & knew enough to enjoy the game but was sometimes perplexed by some of the phrases used by the cake-munching TMS crowd. This short, light-hearted book blew the cobwebs away & detailed almost everything one needs to know to appreciate the subtleties of cricket. Highly recommended.
Great book - By: Steve Phillips, 16 Feb 2006
I am a newcomer to cricket & found myself getting occasionally bewildered at the television coverage so bought this book. Fantastic stuff, last time I read a book this many times it was Allen Carr's quit smoking book!

Can now hold a cricket conversationin the pub with strangers without feeling like a bluffer.

A classic - every cricketer should give one to a friend - By: , 11 Jan 2002
I heard Jonathan Agnew give this book a rave review on Test Match Special last year, but took a while to get round to buying it. I'm very glad I did. This book is a classic - if like me you know a cricket widow or an American who is baffled by the game this is the perfect introduction. It's funny, gentle & informative at the same time. Absolutely worth every one of the five stars!
If its good enough for Christopher Martin-Jenknins......! - By: pbullock@waitrose.com, 20 Jul 2001
In the lunch interval at the first England-Australia Test of 2001, Christopher Martin-Jenkins was asked to suggest a number of books which could explain the rules & placingsin the field. He replied "the best book I have ever read for this is 'What's a Googly?' I am ashamed to say I can't remember the author!" Blowers seconded!
