REALISTIC RECOLLECTION - By: A. George, 04 Nov 2006
If you are looking for lots of blood & guts heroics then this is not the book for you.
If you want to read a realistic account of what life is like on the front linein wartime then this is for you.
There are periods of boredom & the mundane day to day life as a soldier which does not attract attention of the media.
This is the recollection of an ordinary manin an out of the ordinary environment.
So for a realistic portrayal of combat & lifein the german military I would recommend this book.
TEXT BOOK - By: Mr G F Dorey, 28 Oct 2005
The first thing that struck me about this book was its resemblance to a school text book, its A4 layout & illustrations giving it an unusual style
The story itself never really got off the ground because as soon as the author gets into the action he is frostbitten & spends the rest of the battle unable to fight ,he therefore relies on his comrades accounts of the action to tell his tale. This gives the story a somewhat `second hand` feel & reduces the impact.
The climax of the book including capture, imprisonment & the infamous deathmarch is so brief & inconclusive it may as well not be included at all.
To sum the book up i would say very dissapointing & not one i would recommend buying.
