The content is certainly thorough, as even the smallest of villages are given a review. It is also incredibly accurate, & it seems to be largely unbiased to either one of the counties. However, many would feel that the author concentrates too much on the history of noble families & stately homes, rather than the more obvious charms of the towns & villages reviewed. If you skip these overlong (and not too frequent) sections you'll find it a very interesting guide to this corner of England, probably the best available. For those who may have wondered, the castle on the front cover is Scotney Castlein Kent.

I give the book 4/5 because it is well composed overall & interesting to read, the one fault being that few would find it outstandingly thrilling, simply because of the nature of the book (being just a place guide), & also because of the lack of pictures.
