This is essentially a compendium of three earlier Freely books: Strolling through Istanbul, Around the sea of Marmara & The Bosphorus, all published by Istanbul's Redhouse press. Freely is an excellent & throrough writer & it would be harder to find a better cultural guide.

The marketplace is slightly crowded by the fact that by the previous three volumes & his "Blue Guide" (which is also excellent) are still available. This volume is updated & slightly abbreviated from the other three books & fine for most people's needs, although the Blue Guide has slightly better plans. If you are planning to stay longer or are a real completist you might want to spend three times as much on three Redhouse volumes.
