What a Carry On!!! - By: Twazzer, 14 Apr 2006
A exquisitely presented book which tells the story of the Carry On films. The contains a wealth of first hand material which had not been shown before & this is I think the selling point of the book. Handwritten letters from the likes of Sid James and, the ever-underrated, Peter Butterworth are presentedin their original form & are fascinating for all Carry On fans.
The book is writtenin an accessible format & I like the single page format on each prominant Carry On actor. Perhaps the most revealing sections of the book are not on the films themselves but rather on linked aspects such as merchandise & the efforts to make Carry On films since 1978.
An excellent & revealing look at a classic film series.
The Carry On Story - By: , 20 Jan 2006
Another great book from Robert Ross, well written & illustrated. The king of British comedy has produced another great. Full of facts about this wonderful comedy series. On a level par with The Carry On Companion.
Essential for the Carry On fan - By: Freddie Valentine, 29 Jun 2005
Robert Ross' previous book about these classic British comedy films, 'The Carry On Companion', was more focussed on critical opinion than solid facts, but this book is 100 times better & is packed full of info & rare archive pictures.
It covers all of the films plus the live shows & tv outings. As well as devoting a whole page to each of the main team members, there are also honourable sections on the previously unsing acting talents that added to the character of the Carry On films.
The book is well laid out & has some excellent archive pictures including behind the scenes photo's, call sheets & promotional material.
Excellent touches are the location details which for fans of the films answer questions which have previously baffled us.
The book is expensive, but if you are a fan, it truly is worth every penny. Well written, excellently illustrated & visually appealing, it would be hard to better this volume.
