Courage, valour and grim survival. - By: , 31 Jul 2002
These tales of sacrifice, valour & grim survival are Australia's great escape stories of suspense & the spirit of ordinary men determined to escape - or die. They vividly describe the adventure, suspense & courage of ordinary Australians who defied their captors, men willing to risk deathin order to overcome almost impossible odds. Portrayed is the tragic saga of the brutal Japanese death marches across North Borneo, from which six Australians escaped to become the only survivors about of 2000. We follow the incredible journeys to freedom from the Japanese-held islands of Ambon & Hainan by some resolute members of Gull Force. I greatly recommend this moving book.
An impressive accounting of fascinating events. - By: , 08 Jun 2002
It's easy to forget, decades later, just how much incredible heroism & death-defying accomplishments were taken for grantedin the Second World War. This book is an important reminder, an enjoyable read, & reminds us of the heroism & sacrifice that we all can rise to if needed.
